The 2007 AGM took place at the Solo Club on Sunday 25th November. Here is the chairman's report
The 2006 AGM took place on Sunday 19 th Nov at the Solo Club.
The meeting commenced with a talk entitled “How Chiropractic treatment can help The Runner” presented by Dr R McMillan MA MSc BSc CertEd MMCA. This was very informative and well received by the attendees.
2006 was yet again a very successful year for Sleaford Striders with the highlight being the awards picked up at the 1st Lincolnshire athletics Award ceremony in January. The Club gained awards for Best Off-Track Club, Best Junior Club and Steve Jackson picked up Development Coach Award and these truly reflect the impact the Club is having on athletics in Lincolnshire and the growing recognition around the various races within the UK that the Club vest has been seen at during 2006. Striders have been seen at The London Marathon, Great North Run, Great South Run, Cardiff Marathon and the eventful Blackpool Marathon as well at many events in the East Midlands. Our own Half Marathon continues to gain the reputation as 'one not to be missed' and the hard work of all members of the Club to make this a success is something we should feel proud about.
It is extremely pleasing to see the hard work put in by the Club's Coaches is beginning to show fruition and our younger members are starting to make a big impact on athletics within Lincolnshire and by representing the County. I feel I must remind all members that the Club's Coaches are Athletic Coaches who have taken additional training courses to enable them to teach younger people; if senior members feel that the help of a Coach would help you achieve your goals please approach them and discuss your aims - they will be able to help.
I must pay tribute to the Club Committee for the work undertaken during the last year; they have collectively and individually worked hard to ensure the Club meets the demands required by the changing Athletic Authorities and the custody of the Club's finances which had a 2005/6 turnover in excess of £5,000.
There are many Club members who have worked hard in the background supporting the efforts of the Committee and it would be remise not to include then in my thanks. The Club continues to work towards Clubmark Accreditation with a School Sports Partnership Agreement in the final stages before signing. There appears to be a misunderstanding about the need for this Accreditation, so to briefly explain. The achievement and maintenance of this Accreditation will prove to any Organisation we approach for financial support that we run our Club in accordance with approved procedures of UK Athletics. The Club Committee's next big project is to establish our own training facilities in Sleaford, either on our own or as part of a larger sporting project; of which we aim to be the leaders in founding.
