Social Secretary Maria Buckberry
The members of the Club meet on the last Thursday evening of every month usually after the mid-week training session, or straight from "home" and use the tried and tested method of "re-hydration" at a local Public House. Wetherspoons Packhorse on Northgate 9pm onwards. The conversation is not dominated by "running" and is a great way of getting to know other Club Members. Why not join us for a drink??
We arrange 3 or 4 Sunday Lunches during the year, where the members can bring their families along for a meal and chat with other non-runners. The usual idea is to meet for a run at 10am in the Northgate Sports Centre, this finishes by 11.30am lastest when all dash home for a wash and change before meeting at the nominated venue for approx 12.30pm, the meal being served around 1pm. Another good way to mix and keep the family happy (also no washing up!!!).
2004 was the start of this type of Social event, Alan and Maria Buckberry organising a function at the Legionnaires Club, Westgate, Sleaford on a Friday evening. The idea of this event was to raise monies for Alan's nominated Charity during his London Marathon run. The event was very successful and they have decided to orgainse more in the future, keep your eyes open. Sleaford Striders AC has an Annual Presentation Evening that rewards Club members for their efforts during the previous year and covers all aspects from X-Country, Handicap winners, Endeavour and culminates in Club Athlete of the Year. The date for this years event will be notified shortly, but anybody interested in attending, even non-members should contact the Secetary. Friday 1st April 2005 saw an event organised by Julie Hanks with the help of friends and family to raise money towards her Golden Bond ticket into the 2005 Flora London Marathon. Along with ticket sales, raffles, donations and a sponsored hair-shave by Alan Buckberry a sum of £ 700 was put towards her ticket. A big thank you to all who organised and donated towards The British Heart Foundation.
These take place at the end of the year. Over 100 members turned out in 2007.
