09 August 2008 London Triathlon - Thanks to Terry for this report

Some 13,000 athletes took part in the Mazda London Triathlon over the weeked 9/10th Aug in various distances from super sprint races to Olympic distance triathlon. A team of three athletes, made up of Sleaford Striders and Sleaford Wheelers raced in the London Triathlon Olympic Distance team relay event on Saturday 9th Aug 2008. The team members were Terry Grant ( Strider and Wheeler )  who swam the 1500M, Dave Ashley ( Sleaford Wheeler ) who cycled the 42KM and Ed Brown ( Strider ) who ran the 10.4K. The team finished in a highly respectable 78th out of 417 position in a time of 2hrs 32min 56 sec, although the finishing time did not really reflect the true performance as unfortunately Dave Ashley took a tumble and fell of his bike on a slippery road surface going over a metal cover. Although injured Dave valiantly got back on his bike and handed over to Ed Brown who brought the team home with a very solid run.

04 May 2008 Southwell Sprint Tri

Terry Grant competed in the Southwell Sprint Triathlon.

Racing to the backdrop of the famous Southwell Minster, the setting for this event is fantastic. The event consists of a 400 metre swim in the Southwell Leisure Centre's 25 metre pool followed by a 20km cycle and finishing with a looped 5km run. The Southwell Sprint Triathlon is well supported by the local community, businesses and a team of 50+ volunteers.

In its 12th year, the Southwell Sprint Triathlon is the launch event for the Timex Sprint Triathlon Series 2008. The series will consist of the same 4 events as in 2007 these being the Mansfield, Woodhall Spa, and David Lloyd Lincoln sprint triathlons.

The Southwell Sprint Triathlon always attracts a wide mixture of athletes from novice first-timers to experienced triathletes.

One thing that is for sure, no-one enters Southwell for an easy event. The swim is flat, but that is where the flat course finishes. Within metres of starting both the bike and run sections, you are greeted by not such a welcoming incline. They have even named the first part of the run 'The Southwell Slope'.

Terry finished in 138 th position out of 481 in a time of 1.01.22 giving him a PB for the course by 1 minute 25 seconds. He was third in his age group.
